About babynames.help
babynames.help is a data-driven baby-name reference. We combine official birth-registration statistics published by national governments with openly licensed linguistic datasets, so expecting parents can explore names with real evidence behind them: popularity trends across dozens of countries, verified pronunciations, how a name’s gender usage shifts around the world, cultural detail, and notable people who share the name.
What makes our data different
Most name sites recycle the same meanings. We build on primary sources. Popularity comes from birth registrations published by national statistics offices, and our reference data (pronunciation, gender usage, nicknames, name days, notable bearers) comes from openly licensed public datasets. Every source is listed, with its licence, on our Methodology & Data Sources page.
Our editorial standards
- Primary data first. Popularity figures come from official government birth records, not guesswork.
- Transparent sourcing. We cite the dataset behind every data point and respect its licence.
- No invented facts. Where we lack reliable data for a name, we leave it blank rather than fabricate it.
- Kept current. Popularity data is refreshed as statistics offices publish new years.
