Slavic Boy Names

Slavic male names come from East, West, and South Slavic languages and show clear masculine morphology. Many end in a consonant or in -o, and male diminutives use suffixes such as -ek, -ik, -ko, and -yusha. East Slavic patronymics with -ovich mark male lineage, as in Aleksandrovich. Christian saints’ names and historical leaders have been major sources for male given names.

Today, official patronymics remain standard in Russia, Belarus, and parts of Ukraine, while diminutive forms may be used as given names in Czech and Slovak contexts. Common examples include Andrej, Andrii, Alexej, Ales, Afanasy, Afanasi, Artemy, Arkhip, Bartolomej, and Blago.
