The name appears in early Arabic texts and remains familiar across the Muslim world thanks to its straightforward form and strong, vivid meaning.
Its prominence owes much to Hafsa bint ‘Umar (d. 665 CE), a revered Mother of the Believers who safeguarded early Qur’anic sheets, which helped entrench the name.
