Aimone is Italian in Origin.
Aimone is the Italian form of a medieval Germanic name that developed from the element haim, “home, dwelling.” It arose as Haimo, a short form of compound names beginning with Haim-, and spread into Romance languages via Frankish influence. The name appears in Old French as Aymon/Aimon, familiar from the chansons de geste (the father of the Four Sons of Aymon), and in Savoyard history: Count Aimone of Savoy (1291–1343) and the House of Savoy produced later bearers, including Prince Aimone, Duke of Aosta (1900–1948).
Today Aimone is rare in Italy yet retains aristocratic and vintage flair. Variants include Aymon, Aimon (French), Haimo/Hamon (Germanic/Norman), and the Italian short form Aimo; Spanish Aymón also occurs. Related surnames and given names like Hamon and Hamo share the same root. Note that Finnish Aimo is etymologically unrelated despite its similar form.
